CONTAINED
One shipping container. Three rooms. Thirty minutes. Touring Australia. We are building it as we go because the people who need to see it cannot wait for perfect.
The Evidence
Australia spends $3,640 per child per day on detention. Community programs that actually work cost $75 a day. These are the facts.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children make up 65% of those in detention. They are 6% of the population.
Children are locked up on any given night across Australia. Many are on remand. Not yet convicted of any crime.
Taxpayers spend $1.33M per child per year on detention. Community programs cost $75 a day and work better.
Of children who go through detention will return. The system does not rehabilitate. It entrenches.
Three Rooms
Thirty minutes. Three rooms. Each one tells a different part of the story.
Room 1: Current Reality
Young people who supported the build carry the first Room 1 story into a flexible Mount Druitt gathering and then the Adelaide activation on Kaurna Yarta. At every stop, local young people then shape the room from their own place and decide what the public needs to see.
Room 2: What Works
David from Diagrama helps anchor the practice lens for Room 2. The room is grounded in what we saw inside Diagrama's youth justice centres in Spain: education, therapy, family contact, 1:1 staffing, and a recidivism rate of just 13.6%.
Room 3: The Organisations Already Doing It
Room 3 is where local organisations show the programs already working and name what they need funded. Mount Druitt gives the process a small first gathering, Adelaide gets a public activation beside Reintegration Puzzle, then every stop rebuilds it with local hosts.

Programs That Work
These are not proposals. These are real programs, with real data, delivering real outcomes. The alternatives already exist.
Oonchiumpa
Aboriginal-led diversion program achieving a 95% diversion rate. Culturally grounded and significantly more cost-effective.
Diagrama
Spain's model achieves just 13.6% recidivism. Therapeutic, education-centred, and focused on reintegration.
If CONTAINED leaves people asking "what now?", start with youth remand.
This guide explains why young people are held before sentence, what it costs, what alternatives exist, who is organising, and what a visitor, advocate, worker, funder, or decision-maker can do next.

The Tour
We have not locked the money to make this happen. Each stop needs local partners, venues, and funding. We need help. We cannot do this on our own.
